UK AI Safety Summit

When: 1 to 2 November 2023 Where: Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes, the United Kingdom Organisers: government of the United Kingdom

About: The Summit brought together key countries, leading tech companies and researchers to agree safety measures to evaluate and monitor the most significant risks from AI. Coinciding with these discussions, the Bletchley Declaration was presented and endorsed by representatives from 27 countries on the opening day of the Summit.

World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2023

2023 UNIDIR Innovations Dialogue: The Impact of AI on Future Battlefields

When: 27 June 2023 Where: Campus Biotech, Geneva, Switzerland Organisers: UNIDIR

About: First held in 2019, the Innovations Dialogue is UNIDIR's flagship event dedicated to exploring the impact of critical technologies on international peace and security, bringing together the top thinkers and decision-makers from governments, industry and startups, academia, and civil society for strategic-level discussion and debates.

Luxembourg Autonomous Weapons Systems Conference

When: 25-26 April 2023 Where: Maison des Arts et des Etudiants, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg Organisers: Minister of Defence, Directorate of Defence, the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

The conference aims to raise public awareness on the topic and offer all stakeholders a platform to discuss the risks and challenges associated with the use of autonomous weapons systems (AWS).

Conferencia Latinoamericana Y Del Caribe: Impacto Social Y Humanitario De Las Armas Autónomas (Latin American and the Caribbean Conference of Social and Humanitarian Impact of Autonomous Weapons)

When: 23-24 February 2023 Where: La Ribera de Belèn, Costa Rica Organisers: the Government of Costa Rica

The conference brought together governmental experts from Latin America and the Caribbean region. The objective was to stimulate a common understanding and more active participation from the region around the implications of AWS, and to promote a more comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon. Over 30 states adopted Belen Communiqué, the outcome document of the Conference.

Summit on Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain (REAIM 2023)

When: 15-16 February 2023 Where: World Forum, The Hague, the Netherlands Organisers: the government of the Netherlands 

The summit provided a platform for all stakeholders to discuss the key opportunities, challenges and risks associated with military applications of AI. Participants included foreign ministers and other government delegates, as well as representatives from knowledge institutions, think tanks, industry and civil society organisations. The event was co-hosted by the Republic of Korea.

2022 Innovations Dialogue: AI Disruption, Peace, and Security
